ToR Fan Friday – Eternity Vault Dev Walkthrough

Operation: Eternity Vault
(Note: You might want to watch the video before reading this article!)
In the past week or two, I have seen a few videos related to the Eternity Vault (the first “Operation” or “raid” in ToR) but this one seems to be the most informative, and it also happens to be the weekly Fan Friday video. Apart from Dallas Dickinson annoyingly speaking to us like we’re a bunch of kindergartners (I know he must cater to an audience unfamiliar with MMO’s or raiding… and also 5 year olds apparently.), I still really enjoyed this look at ToR operations. Some of you may be disappointed with what you saw of the raid, but keep in mind that this is just a teaser. They can’t give away too many of the game’s secrets before they even give us an official release date!
I will be the first to admit that the initial “boss” fight that you see in the video looks pretty simple, unimpressive and frankly boring (I say that as a veteran WoW raider, but I am sure if you’ve never been into raiding before that it might look exciting). As a side note on the players: I believe the developers who were capturing the fight were told to do a few things (use some sparkly AoE’s and let a few people die) for show instead of following a smart strategy, but that should be obvious to a seasoned raider. Also I acknowledge that BioWare very likely wants to allow players to have some initial success in the raid without too much frustration and too many hours of wiping (you have to gear up somehow!), which is nice and may explain the apparent simplicity of the first fight.
Now, I have thusfar provided you with some sarcasm and doubt, but rest assured that BioWare still has my full confidence and I am extremely excited to get in past that first easy droid boss and see the real stuff! My interest was very much increased near the very end of the video when the teaser previews the rest of the raid for us. My assumption is: The first few bosses will probably be easier, and they will get increasingly more difficult (I think this is as it should be). SO! If you haven’t already, I recommend watching the video from start to finish and I hope you’ll let us know what you think of it!
